Cake and other goodies.

I just started a new job and I wanted us all in the group that had started in the same time to feel that appreciated after the first week of training. And as I love to bake I made a Red Velvet cake for the first time ever and it was a success. My kitchen on the other hand was not a success as it looked like i killed someone in there. My god what a mess.

This cake was amazing and this weekend I went to the baking store for more supplies and today its lazy Sunday so I though i would make some cup cakes just because its fun.

The buildings here below are the east Indian company warehouses down in the inner harbor. So many small icons, decorations and signs on the house. Notice how many small doors all over the fasade.  One is from 1606 and one house from 1618.IMG_9541IMG_9538

Its Fresh

Summer always brings those wonderful exotic fruits and veggies and on the market I can go for hours picking out fresh fruit. The fruit detox for this week contains passion fruit, apples, grapes, strawberries and mango. Throw in a few macadamia, walnuts and apricots kernels (alternative cancer treatment and contains Vitimine B17) and you have a real organic detox that will make your body go WHIIIII of happiness.

Bread

I used to work in a bakery back in the days in Stockholm. After that I love bread and the lovely smell of fresh baked bread not just in the morning but all the time. I tried another bread with nuts and sesame seeds and it came out great. Now a lovely sandwich on fresh baked bread.

Regatta time

It was time for Regatta this weekend for Laser in Hoorn and it was a busy marina. As we are waiting on a spare part to arrive we have a great spot in the marina and it was so fun to see the sailors prepare and set sail out on the lake, they are really skill full I must say even though i still think it looks funny when grown up men and women are in these small boats as this was something we used to do as kid to learn how to sail. But it is fun and I understand why they do it. People from all over Europe was here to try and take the trophy. Let the best man or woman win! 🙂

Thursday doors

I am following a blog Georgimoon and I really like the post there and we share an interest as we are both live aboard. One of the returning posts is The Thursday doors post and I always find the extra fun to see whats this weeks door. I decided to join in and try and give you some Dutch doors so here my first one.

picture is taken in Urk, Flevoland. Its a typical Dutch doors used traditionally as  barn for animals, this has the traditionally colors these Dutch doors have, but they come in many different.

A normal Wednesday

This is just a normal Wednesday to me. On the waterways again. 🙂

Tulips

Yesterday we made a trip to our friends camping and on the way we stopped to look at the tulip fields as we realized we never seen them since we came here, now we have and the colors was just amazing. I love flowers but  as live aboard is not always the optional to have a vase of lovely tulips on the table.

Creative Wednesday

We said many times that its always fun to make your own things and not have to go and buy things all the time. This is not just cost saving but also loads of fun and you learn instead of relying on some shop or other person all the time. For weeks I have been looking for Dutch blue tiles for making my own trivets as I had some old ugly once with a fish on that I always did not like but they were handy many times. Today I went into a flea market and found some tiles for only 2 euros each! I bought the set of 6 and made my own trivets with a nautical theme of course. I think they came out pretty  nice, don’t you? 🙂

Canal ways

There are canal ways like no other where in the world in The Netherlands. We are discovering new ways every time. We are going to explore Friesland for a while now. Friesland is a province in the  north of the Netherlands with Leeuwarden as capital. It wa s a lovely summer day today and so warm and nice, the very first real summer day of the year. Jackets are off! 🙂
